mt saint michael is the primary recording project of singer-songwriter, record producer, and creative generalist lucas grant of philadelphia, pa; currently living and working in new york city.
after years of producing instrumental music under various internet pseudonyms, lucas first began working on the mt saint michael project in late 2018, and to date he has issued a small number of singles, remixes, and music videos. his song Purity—the project’s debut single released in early 2022—is currently sitting at over 100,000 views on YouTube and 30,000 streams on Spotify. at the moment, lucas is gearing up to release his debut album, which he has been working on since the project’s inception.
lucas’ music is highly eclectic, yet easily accessible; taking as much inspiration from the boundary-pushing sounds of experimental pop superstar Porter Robinson as the vulnerable and elliptical songwriting of indie folk legend Phil Elverum (of the Microphones and Mount Eerie). his goal with mt saint michael is to express his thoughts and feelings in a way that can be relatable to other young people, while simultaneously presenting sounds of the experimental and avant garde in a more accessible way. lucas—who initially began learning music composition after being inspired by his favorite video game soundtracks—is also pursuing instrumental film, game, and runway composition, penning highly emotive and densely atmospheric tracks set to works by his friends and family.
in addition to his solo work, lucas has worked extensively as a songwriter and record producer, helping to pen and develop tracks by a wide range of artists across the genre spectrum. his collaborators include folktronica singer-producer evangeline (with whom he produced 2022’s tailspin alongside frequent songwriting partner John Callum Sheehan), as well as philadelphia-based group ABBATIA, A2B2’s industrial hip-hop wunderkinds. as someone who consumes a wide variety of different kinds of music, lucas enjoys collaborating with other artists as it allows him to pursue creative avenues that he may not get the chance to explore within his own work. he believes that helping artists bring their own visions to life is an extremely rewarding feeling, and that there’s nothing more fun than making stuff with your friends.
lucas is a member of philadelphia-based media group ORANGECAP (commonly shortened to ORCA), in which he works on producing various types of content for a range of different artists and creators. lucas is also highly involved in the production of live shows for his ORCA collaborators, helping to arrange songs for the stage, program project files, run sound, and play keyboards. outside of the realm of music making, lucas moonlights as a DJ, does audio engineering and mixing, works as a freelance writer (currently writing his own book!), dabbles in graphic design and video editing, and loves trying new foods.
